Crime Prevention Alert: Rise in thefts from motor vehicles

We've seen an increase in thefts from motor vehicles across the county in recent weeks, and we're urging vehicle owners to take a few simple steps to protect themselves from becoming victims.

Many modern vehicle thefts are committed using technology that can detect and amplify signals from keyless entry fobs. While many people remember to secure their main set of keys, spare keys are often overlooked and can leave your vehicle vulnerable.

✅ Help protect your vehicle by:

Always locking your vehicle, even when parked at home.

Removing valuables and keeping them out of sight.

Securing both your main and spare sets of keys in a Faraday pouch or Faraday box to block electronic signals.

Keeping vehicle keys away from doors, windows and letterboxes.

Ensuring any steering locks, wheel clamps or other security devices are used where appropriate.

Checking your vehicle's security settings and ensuring software updates are installed.

📌 Remember, criminals are often looking for the easiest opportunity. Taking a few moments to secure your vehicle and keys can make a significant difference.

If you notice suspicious behaviour in your neighbourhood, report it to us via our website, by calling 101, or in an emergency, always call 999.
